Full Name : Tengku Razaleigh bin Tengku Mohd. Hamzah

Date and Place of Birth : 13th April, 1937. Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia.

Educational Qualifications :

  • Queen’s University, Belfast,Northern Ireland, and graduated with B.Sc. (Econ) in 1959.
  • Continued education for Bar-at- Law at Lincoln’s Inn, London, until 1962.
  • Conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) by Queen’s University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1982.

  • 1987 - Challenged the Prime Minister for the Presidency of UMNO Malaysia losing narrowly by 43 votes despite the odds
  • 1988 - UMNO declared unlawful society by the KL High Court
  • 1989 - Elected President of Semangat 46, a party formed on the proposal of Y.T.M. Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra to continue UMNO’s original aspirations
  • 1990 - 96 - Member of Parliament representing Semangat 46 in Gua Musang (formerly Ulu Kelantan) constituency. Re-elected as Member of Parliament for Semangat 46 in the Gua Musang Parliamentary constituency in 1995 and was re-elected again in the ensuing by-election on 29.8.95 in the same constituency
  • 1996 - Dissolved Parti Melayu Semangat 46 on 6th October,1996, and joined UMNO Baru on 8th October, 1996.
  • 1999 - Appointed Chairman UMNO Kelantan State Liaison Committee for 1999 General Election
  • 1999 - Re-elected Member of Parliament for Gua Musang standing on Barisan Nasional ticket. [Has represented the Parliamentary Constituency of Ulu Kelantan (now known as Gua Musang) since 1974]
  • 2004 - Once again re-elected Member of Parliament for Gua Musang on Barisan Nasional ticket.
  • 2008 - Re-elected as Member of Parliament for Gua Musang in the 2008 General Election
