Gua Musang Division Committee Picks Candidates for GE

GUA MUSANG, Oct 27  (Bernama) -- Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said the selection of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in Gua Musang for the coming general election was made by the Umno division committee, without his intervention.

He said this included his own position as the incumbent Member of Parliament for Gua Musang. Tengku Razaleigh, who is also the Gua Musang division chief, said the committee members were given full power to select through voting on the candidates who could win a big majority.

"At the division's monthly meeting last month, we voted on the list of candidates selected by the people to contest as BN candidates for the Gua Musang parliamentary seat and the three state seats of Galas, Paloh and Nenggiri.

"The results had been sent to the party leadership at the Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. Let's wait for the decision," he said in his speech at a meeting with the Paloh Ballot Box heads at the Kesedar Paloh 1 Land Development Scheme Square, near here, Thursday.

Tengku Razaleigh said the method of selecting candidates through votes at the division committee level was a new approach to prove transparency in picking those qualified and accepted by the people.

He said he did not want to be accused as being the power behind the selection of candidates, as the objective of the division and party leadership was to win big in the Gua Musang parliamentary constituency and the three state constituencies.
